Unifi: Using InSite to Bridge the Gap between ERP and Plant-floor Systems
Unifi, the world's leading producer of polyester yarn, must be able to take a customer
order and then manage production operations in multiple plants in order to meet
each customer's delivery and product specifications.
To better meet their customers' requirements, Unifi chose InSite to integrate ERP
data with live manufacturing information directly from the plant floor.

Unifi has not only leveraged the live information tracking and management component
of InSite, but also its integration capabilities. InSite was implemented to be the
hub of a fully integrated production solution that:
- Supports mission critical, "always on" operations
- Automatically distributes work orders from the production planning center to the
factory through Oracle's ERP application
- Manages factory-level production lot tracking and data collection
- Controls equipment and automation through collaboration with SCADA
InSite has become the software backbone for Unifi. The company has been able to
establish connectivity between live plant floor data and the enterprise system,
facilitating the flow of information throughout the entire plant.
System Collaboration Provides Better Quality and Reduced Costs
Unifi wanted to extend the functionality of their existing Oracle ERP application
to include live resource and quality data that the factories need to manage production.
They also wanted to link their SCADA software and automated systems to the manufacturing
enterprise.
With a fully integrated solution, Unifi can link product requirements directly to
shop-floor activities, and can collect and analyze the live production data, allowing
the company to reduce costs and achieve outstanding quality.
