Manufacturer Cites Electronic Quality Control and Traceability plus Increased
Efficiency as Key Benefits
Charlotte, NC (February 7, 2006) - Camstar, the leading provider of enterprise
manufacturing execution and quality management solutions, announced today that BIOTRONIK,
one of the world’s leading manufacturers of medical products for the electrotherapy
of the heart and vascular intervention, has chosen Camstar's Medical Device Suite
application, powered by Camstar's award winning InSite platform, to further its
quality and efficiency initiatives in North America and Europe.
"BIOTRONIK’s products help to restore and secure the patient's quality of life in
a lasting way," said Dr. Bernhard Saretz, Corporate Vice President of Production.
"Our first goal with the Camstar solution is to be sure that as we grow and expand,
product quality remains high. Camstar has shown us how we can improve not only product
traceability, but also process traceability and in-process enforcement."
Camstar’s Medical Device Suite will provide BIOTRONIK with real-time, comprehensive
production information, traceability and control. The vertically integrated German
manufacturing company will first deploy the solution at Micro Systems Engineering,
Inc. (MSEI), a subsidiary of BIOTRONIK in Lake Oswego, Oregon. "Camstar’s Medical
Device Suite will become a valuable quality management tool by ensuring all processes
are strictly followed and by providing process alarms," said Bob Erb, Vice President
of Operations at MSEI. "It will also become a valuable tool to improve manufacturing
yields and to better integrate CAPA with manufacturing. We will spend more time
improving quality and operational efficiency rather than collecting data."
"It’s very important to integrate the manufacturing information with our SAP system,
which is the backbone to order management," said Christof Buchholz, Director of
Production Systems at BIOTRONIK. "And we will also be able harmonize our heterogeneous
shop floor databases."
The solution will be rolled out to five additional plants in North America and Europe
as well, and Dr. Saretz envisions it as a point of standardization for the enterprise.
"The sites will be more able to communicate and improve their processes because
they are not alone," he said. "We can all share experiences and improve."
We welcome BIOTRONIK to Camstar’s rapidly growing group of international Medical
Device customers," said Jason Adams, Camstar's Managing Director, Life Sciences.
"Camstar’s leadership in the Medical Device and Diagnostics industry is again proven
by continued adoption of our Medical Device Suite in Europe as well as North America.
We are committed to helping our customers reach their goals of greater efficiency,
higher yields and manufacturing visibility by providing complete, configurable and
easily-validated vertical solutions."
