Application Enhances Its Already Lean Demand Flow Manufacturing Process
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 6, 2006) – Camstar, the leading provider of Enterprise
Manufacturing Execution and Quality Systems for medical device and diagnostics,
high technology semiconductor and electronics, and other global manufacturers, announced
today that Carl Zeiss Meditec successfully deployed Camstar’s Manufacturing Execution
System (MES), InSite | Medical Device Edition, to increase productivity, improve
quality, reduce the cost of compliance, and support the plant’s Demand Flow Technology
(DFT).
Carl Zeiss Meditec designs, manufactures and markets medical instruments for the
four main ophthalmic disease clusters (refractive, cataract, glaucoma and retinal
disorders) – from diagnosis to surgery and follow-up treatments. Its wide spectrum
of ophthalmic systems includes keratometers; slit lamps; fundus cameras for diagnosis;
lasers for eye therapy; and instruments for measurement and optimum vision testing.
“To comply with FDA and international regulations, our manufacturing process must
meet the highest quality standards. That includes manufacturing control and
enforcement, plus complete traceability and Device History Records (DHRs) for every
instrument produced,” said Kal Nawawi, director of manufacturing at Carl Zeiss Meditec.
“Camstar’s knowledge of our business needs and industry challenges, and its superior
technology, were integral to successfully implementing a new electronic manufacturing
system.”
Carl Zeiss Meditec’s implementation included converting all six product lines at
its Dublin, California plant to a paperless DHR system. “We selected Camstar
based on its reputation for ease of configuration of the application and, specifically,
the ease of validation,” said Mr. Nawawi. “The new system supports the plant’s
Demand Flow Technology, reduces the cost of compliance, and provides manufacturing
with the real-time control and quality information needed to improve yields and
ramp up volume more quickly.”
“Medical device manufacturers are constantly looking for new ways to improve quality
and yield while adhering to strict federal regulations,” said Scott Toney, Camstar
President and CEO. “Carl Zeiss Meditec, a leader in its industry, has been able
to utilize Camstar’s InSite | Medical Device Edition to not only comply with regulations
more cost-effectively, but to also increase productivity and quality through electronic
data and control.”
